Cox & Kings chalks out ambitious growth strategy through franchisees

Cox & Kings, the 248-year-old travel company, is embarking on an ambitious expansion strategy through the establishment of franchisee shops across India. The plan is to have a presence in all primary, secondary and tertiary locations in the country.
Each of these franchisees will offer a host of travel related services under one roof and in the process, make travel a lot simpler for their customers. The entire basket of services such as hotel booking, flights, car rentals, sightseeing, rail, cruises, holidays and insurance would be offered.
According to Ms Urrshila Kerkar, CEO, India, Cox & Kings, "the travel industry is growing at 35 per cent per annum and we believe that it is important to have a distribution platform that dot the entire country.  The franchisee route will enable us to fulfill the requirements of our growing customer base".
Kerkar adds, "our aim is to create a network of close to 700 franchisee outlets across India in the next three years. We would not limit it to only travel agents but any entrepreneur with a drive to maximize his business with our support."
The support system for a franchisee would be unparalleled. The strong brand equity of Cox & Kings would give the franchisee a headstart. Technology support would be in the form of Customer Relationship Management System (CRM), that analyses the customers needs, 24x7 call centre that would act as a point of contact in case of an emergency or urgent queries and a robust online platform that would upload real time inventory of all the products. The franchisee will have access to preferential deals that would be derived from the immense purchasing power that Cox & Kings commands. The company would also provide marketing support even in small cities and towns to assist the franchisee. Finally, the franchisee would be provided with comprehensive training to master the art of selling holiday products. This would also be constantly upgraded.

Cox & Kings has drawn up a list of guidelines for potential franchisees. To begin with the business space should be between 250-500 square feet or between 500-1000 square feet. The premises would have to be on the ground floor and road facing with a provision to install a signboard, which would be clearly visible. The franchisee interiors and exteriors will have to follow the Cox & Kings look and feel from specifications and guidelines defined by Cox & Kings. Capital investment of Rs 10-15 lakh, which is exclusive of the set-up cost borne by the franchisee.
