National Gallery: As mentioned above, the art scene in Australia is quite vibrant with contemporary art ruling the roost. The National gallery is the premier art gallery and museum in this country with a collection of more than 120,000 masterpieces. Both the concrete cubic structure and the excellent exhibits make is a great experience for any art lover. This gallery was established in 1967 by the government of Australia and consists of 11 main galleries located on three levels. There is also an amazing sculpture garden measuring 2 hectares in area. There is an amalgamation of different types of art including white art, South east Asian works, the art of the aborigines as well those of Africa, Oceanian and pre Columbian art along with European masterpieces before 1850 and modern art since 1950.
