Places to visit in Pahalgam
Pahalgam is definitely a go to destination for all kinds of travelers whether they are families, kids, couples or groups of friends. However, families and couples are the types of visitors who most frequent Pahalgam. There are many tourist places in Pahalgam which can be explored by tourists. Local attractions can be visited any time during the day be it early morning, afternoon, evening or night. Betaab valley: This valley got its name from the movie Betaab starring Sunny Deol as this movie was shot extensively in this area. The valley is surrounded by snow covered mountain peaks and dense deodar and pine forests. The valley is at the mouth of the River Sheshnag and there is a beautiful garden in it along with a bridge meant to cross the river. A lot of construction is going on in the Betaab valley because the Pahalgam Development Authority has proposed to develop it as a beautiful spot for holidaying. This place is idea to simply enjoy the beauty of nature so take your picnic basket and head for Betaab valley.
Sun temple Pahalgam: The Sun temple is situated in MArtand which is at a distance of 64 km from Srinagar and only 7 km from Anantnag. The legend of this temple goes back to the era of the Pandavas. It was built by the King Lalitaditya Muktapida whose reigned in the duration between 699 and 739 AD. However, according to some legends the foundation was laid by King Ranaditya Muktapida in the time duration between 370 and 500 AD. You can enjoy a bird's eye view of the village of Mattan from this temple which is situated atop a plateau. This temple is a symbol of the Hindu religion which was predominant in the valley at one time.
Lidderwat Pahalgam: If you are in the Himalayan mountains, then camping in the lap of nature is something that you should definitely indulge in. If this is what you have in mind then Lidderwat is a popular and beautiful camping site amidst dense forests and located at an altitude of 3,408 meters. It is located not far from Pahalgam at a distance of 22 km and the Lidderwat village is the point of commencement for the trek to the Sindh Valley. You can take a taxi to travel to this village or the more adventurous souls can opt for a pony ride as well.
