Places to visit in Alleppey
Zlleppey is a place of beaches, beautiful reports, the backwaters, temples, museums and more. While on your stay, make a list of the places to visit in Alleppey:
Alleppey Beach: One of the favourite beaches, the Alleppey Beach is one of the great places to see in Alleppey. Golden sand lay stretched far-flung lapped with the mirth of infuriating waves. Delving into the past, Alleppey was a popular and prominent port city that is today described as a 137-year old pier. Today, the beach has transformed into a ravishing beauty enhanced in style by dense palm grooves. Take a quick tour to a beautiful garden and an age-old lighthouse situated on the beach. Aside from savouring the roaring of the rough sea and the whizzing of the cool breeze past your ear, enjoy picnicking at the beach. It is the best place to enjoy your preferred activities.
Ambalapuzha Temple: Visit the ‘Dwarka' of the south, the Ambalapuzha Temple which is dedicated to the revered deity Lord Krishna. The main attraction of the temple is the Ambalapuzha Temple Festival visited by locals and tourists all over the country. Marvel at the exquisite mural paintings displays at the temple that reflect the integral historical significance related to it. Have a taste of Ambalapuzha Palpayasam or sweet milk porridge which is the specialty of the temple. The opening and closing time of the temple is from 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. The good news is there is no entry fee required.
Karumadi Kuttan Statue: A glorious and reverberating part of the past, the Karumadi Kuttan Statue is an impressive Buddhist centre that houses a huge, black granite statue of the imposing Lord Buddha from the 10th century AD. There is no entry fee required to get inside the temple. It is believed that the statue was abandoned for several centuries until it was found by Sir Robert Bristow in the 1930s. Folklore has it that the left part of the statue was destroyed by an elephant. Therefore, the statue is currently under the protection and vigilance of the state government. Situated 15 kilometres from Alleppey, the statue should be a must-see site. Other similar religious places in Alleppey are St. Mary Forane Church, Arthunkal Church and the Ambalapuzha Temple.
