KOREA TRIVIA - UNIQUELY KOREA
Taekwondo: or Korean Kickboxing as it is also known, is a Korean traditional martial art, a method of self-defence using hands & feet. The focus of Taekwondo is on training and disciplining the mind along with the body. Koreans view Taekwondo as not just the art of self defence but as an exercise form, a bare handed martial arts form, a sport and an educational method.

Hallyu: or the ‘Korean Wave’ refers to the phenomenon of the rapid spread of Korean Culture around the world. In the last few years, Korean art, drama and cinema have gained recognition worldwide e.g. the Grand Prix awarded to the movie ‘Old Boy’ at Cannes in 2004, Best Director award for ‘Chihwaseon’ in 2002 at Cannes, 3 different awards to Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, …and Spring at the Locarno Film Festival in 2003. The T.V drama ‘Daejanggeum’ is a huge hit in Korea and numerous Asian countries and showcases Korean culture to the world.

Mud Festival: The Boryeong Mud festival is one of the most attractive summer festivals that you cannot miss. The mud festival offers a unique experience in a grand mud tub. Mud wrestling, mud sliding, a mud prison, mud military training , mud photo contests, mud massages, are some of the whacky activities one can indulge in at this festival.

Cheonggyecheon Stream: Cheonggyecheon has been an integral part of Seoul for over 600 years. However, its only in 2005, when the stream was cleaned and restored to its historical glory that it once again became a central part of Seoul’s spirit. It has 22 stunningly designed bridges all along its length, cultural performances are held in its open plaza, its beautifully landscaped banks form  an enticing hangout for officegoers and young couples alike from all over the city.

Temple Stay: Temple stays are a unique opportunity for foreign tourists to live in a Buddhist temple and learn about and experience Korean Buddhist culture firsthand. Most temples are located deep in the mountains, so visitors can also fully enjoy the beauty of nature. The basic program at a temple entails Buddhist rites, Zen meditation, tea ceremonies, and barugongyang (Buddhist meal with traditional wooden bowls). Various other activities have recently been added, including a walk around the temple, a mountain trek, lotus lantern making, and rubber stamp making.
