Royal Leh Palace: Situated in the Leh district of Ladakh, the Royal Leh Palace was built in the 17th century by King Sengge Namgyal. The palace is a nine-storey structure that offers a bird's eye view of the town of Stok Kangri, Leh and the Indus River. Do visit the museum situated inside the palace that displays rare collections of ornaments, jewelleries, ceremonial dresses and crowns. The place, indeed, is a sight to behold which is designed like the Potala Palace in Lhasa, Tibet. Visitors can see the palace and also go to the roof to catch the panoramic views of Leh.
Zanskar and Nubra Valley: Isolated from rest of the world, the Zanskar Valley in Ladakh has 14,000 Buddhists living here. Scooped between the Zanskar Mountain and the Great Himalayan ranges, the valley is a picture-perfect with the Zanskar River cutting through the heart of the valley. The valley remains closed for most part of the year due to heavy rainfall. Do not miss the Nubra Valley as well, which is tucked away 150 kilometres from Leh. Also, known as the Valley of Flowers, your journey to the Nubra Valley will never cease to amaze you. Go biking along the Khardung La Pass and take rest at the small hotels and guest houses at Diskit, the main village of Nubra.
Monasteries: While sightseeing in Leh Ladakh, enjoy the the Alchi Monastery, Shey Monastery, Thiksey Monastery, Diskit Monastery, Hemis Monastery, etc. Unlike other monasteries perched on hill tops, the Alchi Monastery lies on a flat surface. The Shey Monastery is knotted on the bank of the Indus River and is 15 kilometres from Leh. The Thiksey Monastery, on the other hand lies 18 kilometres from Leh. Take pictures of the 106 feet tall Maitreya Buddha in the Diskit Monastery, which is a 14th century structure. Considered as one of the richest monastery in the country, the Hemis Monastery is the largest in the Ladakh district.
