Veli Tourist Village: Take a tour round the Veli tourist village which is treated as a popular picnic spot where a great number of tourists throng every year. Vellayani Lake: This is one of the popular freshwater lakes in this coastal town, situated at a distance of 7 kilometres. Aside from revelling in the beauty of the picturesque lake, tourists enjoy boat rides while witnessing a variety of flora and fauna. Quite interesting, the Vellayani Lake holds a popular legendary story associated with it. Once, a beggar came across a saint, while searching for water. The saint had only a few drops remaining in his pot which he threw with his palm as far as he could while chanting a prayer. Surprisingly, the area turned into a lake which is the Vellayani Lake as recognized today.
Neyyar Dam: You should not miss the Neyyar Dam while sightseeing in Kovalam. The dam is situated 32 kilometres away from Thiruvananthapuram. This beautiful lake serves as a great picnic spot and is known for displaying the rarest medicinal herbs.
