According to an ancient legend, once King Jambu Lochan went hunting in the forest and found a goat and a lion drinking water together near the river Tawi. This bewildered the king and he thought that this place definitely had something magical about it to make two totally opposite animals coexist in peace. He therefore built the fort where today is known as the building of Jammu and Bahu fort. He built his new capital here because he felt that here the people of different regions could co exist in harmony.
Jammu is the winter capital of the state of J&K where Srinagar is the summer capital. The city of Jammu is part of the Jammu district and is located in the northern part of India. Jammu is also a common getaway to Patnitop, Kashmir, Vaishno Devi, Amarnath Yatra and other popular tourist locations. Most travelers like to spend a day or two here before heading out to other destinations. The city of Jammu shares its boundaries with Punjab and Kashmir, due to which you can find a perfect amalgamation of Sikhism, Hinduism and Islam here.
